Summer of 1938

This is a picture of a gathering of many of the Hiatt relatives in this area in 1938. I don't know the occasion. Carolyn Gentry has been trying to identify all the people that she can in this photo. Mama was able to tell her who some of them were. Mama/Grandma Delia is the pretty girl on the front row, left side. Actually I think she is the prettiest one in the whole picture! 

It was fun to have Kristen and kids come for a visit on Thurs. and Fri. Here is Merry Grace being her usual cute self!

Kristen came up for a quick visit this week and we started some early celebrations for Father's Day, Adam's birthday, and Logan's birthday. We also celebrated graduations, weclome home from NM, and Potato Day!

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures of Logan! I've been going through some old pictures and scanning them in. I love the way Logan is folding his arms - that was the way he did it - and he has the cutest look on his face! I love it! My baby Logan!

We all went out to celebrate with a late dinner at Goobers.

This is a picture of Logan in the back yard playing frisbee with Adam...who you can't see. They also like to play basketball together.

This is Logan standing in front of the middle school on his last day of school. Next year he will be in high school - WOW!

The sunset was so pretty over the mountains last night. I wish I'd gotten a shot in a different place, but you can still see the sun setting behind the tops of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.

Princess and Chicken Little are friends - they like to hang out together, so I guess that makes them friends. Princess is fast becoming a pet. She follows Adrian around so faithfully and eats out of his hand.

There are several that look like this. Adrian says their feathers are really soft. The smallest one we are naming Chicklet - that's the name Ian likes.

This is our little auracana chicken. I think we are going to call her Fancy chicken. That was the name Elise liked, Fancy.

We have been calling this rooster weathervane because he looks like the roosters on the weathervanes on top of barnes. Very traditional. Now that I'm looking at the picture again, this may not be Weathervane. This may be the big rooster. I guess I need to go out to the chicken coop and look again! =)

This is one of the new roosters. We think he's really pretty. We may call him cracker jack. Not sure what is going to "stick" yet.

Sometimes when I look at Pilot Mountain, I wonder what it must have looked like to the early settlers who traveled on foot and used the mountain as a guide. There are so many places you can see it from that it must have helped them navigate using its location as a landmark.

I made these through our somewhat dirty windshield coming home from stake meetings in Winston on Sunday night.

Bag Worms

I just had to mention that the bag worms are out in what appears to be full force now. It brings back memories.... It seems like only yesterday that one of the kids (Logan?) did an act in the talent show with the little creatures!

Lately, though, Logan and Adrian have been taking a limb from a tree that has the bag with worms inside and putting it into the chicken pen as a treat for the chickens.

Another Survey!

I don't even know why I'm doing this, but Kristen e-mailed this to me and well, here I go with it! ;)

1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought? Probably something like, "You sure look tired!" I was up later than usual last night.
2. When is the next time you will kiss someone? When Adrian comes home from work.

Okay, well, I suddenly feel like Cory. I'm tired of answering questions after the first two! :0 It was a cute survery, though, and I enjoyed reading Kristen's answers, but now I've lost interest in answering them myself!
