Did You Know...

Did you know that cutting lots of hot peppers without using gloves will make your hands burn...a lot? I have cut up peppers often enough and really like the hot, spicy taste and seem to tolerate the heat quite well, so I thought I'd be fine not to use gloves when cutting up three bowls full to preserve - drying some and canning the others. Well, I wasn't fine. My fingers started to burn before I finished the third bowl. When I realized what was happening, I tried to wash my hands, using soap and water and several home remedies, but to no avail. I ended up staying awake for pretty much the next 10-12 hours, taking ibuprophen, and keeping my hands in ice water to help with the pain and keep my hands cool....a pretty miserable night. So, if anyone asks you, spending a lot of time in hot peppers without gloves is not a good idea!

8bol (Eight Ball)

8bol as a puppy, just this cute little friendly furry fellow that we love so much.

8bol doing the "rug" stretched out on the floor, enjoying being with us and we with him.

8bol on vacation with us this summer, spending some time in the cool shady grass by the lake.

8bol curled up on the chair in the living room, snuggled up just being his cute little self. We love and miss you, 8bol.

8bol

This is going to be a hard post to write. Our little dog 8bol (Eight Ball) died on Monday, September 1. He was more than just our little dog, he was part of us and we love him so much. He was with us in our every day activities and so much a part of our lives and we miss him so much. We remember the happy times we shared and all the endearing qualities he had and the joy he brought into our home and lives. He will always have a special place in our hearts. I am grateful for the comfort and peace we have received as we have gone through this sad time in our family. 8bol was a special little fellow and we love and miss him and are so grateful for the memories of all the good times we had with him.

Summer 2008

We made some family pictures while we were all gathered together at Kristen and Cory's house the weekend that Ethan was getting ready to fly back to Utah to school.

We are a good bunch, aren't we?!

Sharing good times together! Family is the best!

Summer 2008

Grandma Delia, Lois and Ethan on the deck enjoying some delicious homemade peach ice cream that Ethan and Lois made. We have enjoyed some good cookouts on the deck this summer.

We had an extended family FHE this summer at Libby Hill, thanks to Uncle Roger and Aunt Nancy. It was fun to gather, share a meal and some wonderful memories of Grandpa and Grandma Hiatt (Willian Henry Hiatt and Gracie Darling Shelton Hiatt) and others. It was an exciting evening, which began with unexpected car troubles and a walk for me from downtown over across town to the restautant. Good thing I had my walking shoes in the car! I did get offered a ride or two on the way over, but declined! :)

Due to circumstances, we've parked our mini-van and so for this trip to Raleigh we were tightly packed into our little car, with Ethan, Adam, Logan, and 8bol enjoying the back seat together! :)

We had a nice family temple trip this summer with me, Adrian, Kristen and Cory, Ethan and Lois, and Adam all getting to go together.

Good Buddies

I caught these two snoozing in similar positions and thought they were just so cute. We have enjoyed having Max here for a visit. I believe these two good buddies have had a good time hanging out together for awhile, but I know Max will be glad to see his family again soon.

That would be the lizard....

8bol, our little dog, and Max, Kristen's little dog (who is visiting while his family is on vacation) were running very energetically into the kitchen recently as I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a lizard slipping into a small space beside the dishwasher at the floor. They sniffed around the floor and then went on their way, pretty much unfazed by my quick, although loud, shrieks. I told Adam and Logan to be on the lookout for the lizard to resurface and I headed outside to do something. When I came back in, there were Adam and Logan...and the lizard...all sitting in the living room, apparently just hanging out together! I shrieked again and asked if they could catch it, which Logan did and took it outside for me. It was just "funny" to me that they hadn't even noticed it - in the middle of the living room floor - until I came in and pointed it out! Didn't I just say there was a lizard in the house and to be on the lookout?!

A good time was had by all...

We had a wonderful family vacation! We camped in Virginia from Wednesday until Saturday and had lots of fun together and made some wonderful memories. I sure love you guys!

Adam and Elise discussing strategy! We had fun playing mormon rook around the table at our campsite one evening.

Ethan and Lois along with the rest of us resting and picnicing by the lake.

The rafts were a big hit!

Our Family Vacation

After setting up our campsites and getting settled in, we took a walk around the area and down to the lake. We had a good time walking along and talking with each other. Even though it got dark and started raining before we got back to our tents, it was still lots of fun!

The fam sitting around our campsite. We enjoyed the time in camp to eat together, play games, do crafts, visit with one another, have devotional and scritptures, and just be together!

We had some great meal planners (Kristen and Cory) and lots of great cooks! We had hot dogs and hamburgers, Kristen's wonderful chicken salad, Adrian's delicious peach cobbler, smores, hobo dinners, pancakes and smoked sausage, and lots of other good food! This is a picture of Adrian working on his famous peach cobbler.

Grammy and Merry Grace strolling along the beach at the lake. We're right in step with each other...two peas in a pod! :)

Summer Fun

We enjoyed a nice bike ride and walk on the Greenway Trail by the river.

The kids were so cute playing in the pool!

What summer day with the family would complete without a little water fight!

Adam has a good time playing with the kids and really gets on their level and has a lot of fun with them!
